We set up Baker Snell in April 2015 as our dream of wanting to break away from the “corporate” high street recruitment culture to work in a more independent and bespoke way became reality.

For us, being able to take the time to explore a candidate’s job search in detail and getting to know and understand the needs of a business when they hire talent is key.

We have both worked extensively in recruitment and have experience working in-house as well as externally for a range of clients and industries within Exeter, London and the Home Counties.

Now Exeter based, we work with employers in Devon and throughout the UK covering both permanent and contract positions from entry level up to executive appointments.  

As an independent consultancy we are able to make our own decisions and will endeavour to deliver a simple, transparent service where you are updated throughout and listened to.

Meet the team.

Claire Snell 

Co-Founder – Lives in Exeter with her husband Mark and son Charlie.

I was born and raised in Devon, studied Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London then returned to Exeter after graduation to work for a local SME working with historical ordnance survey maps. I then headed back up the M5 to the bright lights of London and started my career working in recruitment.

1998: Worked for a FTSE agency across their North London/Hertfordshire offices as a Finance and Accountancy recruitment consultant covering both commercial and public sector clients for permanent roles.

2005: Moved back home to Devon joining a national consultancy in Exeter as a commercial recruiter, filling roles at all levels for both permanent and contract positions.

2013: After 8 successful years within this award winning, top performing branch, took a break to spend time with my son before he started school.

2015: Joined forces with Helen to create our own recruitment agency, focussing on the candidate and client experience. I love taking the time to really understand everyone’s needs in the recruitment process and then delivering a quality over quantity approach.

Helen Baker

Co-founder - Lives on the outskirts of Exeter with her husband, Matt and two little boys, Harry and Tommy.

2005: After graduating with a Business Degree in Bristol, I started working for a national Recruitment Agency as a Temporaries Consultant working with local organisations recruiting for commercial office temps.

2007: Moved to Reading to work at Microsoft Headquarters recruiting for their contingent workforce. I was there for 3 years recruiting for areas of the business such as XBOX and worked closely with the Games Studios to recruit for their graduate and intern placements before moving back to my home city of Exeter.

2010: Started at another well-respected consultancy recruiting within the commercial sector as a Permanent Consultant.  Here I was awarded Top Permanent Consultant of the year countrywide and enjoyed many other accolades during my happy 5 years there.

2015: Decided to move away from the corporate recruitment agencies and started up a boutique consultancy offering a bespoke service with my colleague Claire.

I love nothing more than the buzz of supporting someone to find a new career and assisting them in every aspect which is why I have always loved working in the recruitment industry.​
