Candidate FAQ's.
How do I register with Baker Snell Recruitment?
By registering as a candidate, we ask everyone to send through their CV via the candidate registration form or apply directly for a job on the job vacancies page.
On receipt of your CV, we will assess your skills and experience and if we believe we can assist you, we will call you for an initial chat. We do try to make contact with every candidate but sometimes this isn’t possible due to the high volumes of applications we receive.
How long does registering take and will I need to bring anything with me?
Helen or Claire will meet you for about 30 minutes to discuss your experience, skills and career aspirations. Please bring a form of ID such as your passport or full birth certificate with proof of NI. If any specific testing is required for a particular role, we can do this remotely to make the process really easy for you.
Where do we meet?
Our ethos has always been to make the registration process as easy as possible for all of our candidates. We will always try to meet at a location close to you, so you don’t have to take time out of work in order to register with us. We also use video calls if that is easier. We can also register outside of normal working hours by appointment.
Should I wear a suit and treat registering like a formal interview?
No, but it is helpful to be smartly presented. While we like to consider the registration as more of an informal chat than an interview, we do consider first impressions – including presentation, attitude and punctuality – as part of our candidate assessment.
How long does it take to get a job after I have registered with you?
We can never guarantee how long the job hunting and interview process will take. This can be dependent on many factors: from the type of role you’re looking for, to your experience, to the time of year! We will always try our best to work to your timeline and keep you updated through the process.
What can you do for me?
We are here to help you with your next career step and it’s important that you feel you can ask us for advice at every stage. We will give you guidance around correctly setting out your CV, as well as prepare you for interviews and recommend realistic salary expectations. We will support you right until you have been offered a position and be there in your first few months for you to call on if you need any assistance at all.
We ask that you also keep us informed of any updates so that we can work together as effectively as possible.
Does it cost me anything?
No, candidates do not need to pay us anything.
How often should I stay in touch?
Please feel free to call and update us with your working situation, particularly if your circumstances change or if you would like to send through an updated CV.
How can I stay updated of new job opportunities?
You can keep an eye on the live jobs on the website. All new jobs are uploaded on the same day that we are briefed by our clients.
We are also very active on our social media accounts so it’s well worth following us on Twitter, Facebook for job updates.

How do you source candidates?
We are proactive in our approach and don’t rely on advertising alone to attract talent for new roles. We have existing networks of candidates on our database developed through ongoing contact along with referrals and recommendations. Often, we have candidates working with us on an exclusive basis that aren’t on job boards that we can approach about relevant vacancies.
We do also invest in high profile job boards which gives us access to search for job seeking candidates along with running targeted adverts across various platforms – all part of our service.
Why use Baker Snell to fill a role?
We are very thorough in our candidate selection and have low ratios in terms of CV’s submitted to placement – we won’t waste your time with lots of unsuitable CV’s – it is our job to act as the first stage of the interview process and present you with a vetted selection of highly suitable candidates for you to meet. We also spend time discussing the role and company in detail with each candidate to make sure we fully understand their reasons for applying and what their medium/long term goals are. Finally, for peace of mind we offer a guarantee to find a suitable replacement should someone not work out (this doesn’t happen very often as we like to get it right the first time!) Please ask us for more information and we can send you our Terms of Business.
How many CVs will you send me and how quickly?
Our aim is to send you a shortlist of suitable vetted candidates. We do not send double digit numbers of CVs for one role, as our job is to act as the first interview stage to ensure any candidates, we put forward have already been qualified by us. Some of our clients like to have CVs sent across as and when we find suitable people, others like to have a shortlist presented by a set deadline – it’s up to you how you want us to work for you. We will discuss this when we take your initial job brief and agree timescales for the process.
Can I just email you the job description?
The job description is a fantastic starting point, but it is really important for us to fully understand the role requirements and to gain an overall insight into the relevant department and wider company. This enables us to focus our searches so we can shortlist the most suitable candidates. Great candidates will always want to know about the role and business in more detail before deciding to apply. It also eliminates any wasted time interviewing people who are looking for something different than what is on offer.
We can discuss your vacancy over the phone, via video call or in person at your premises (this is the preferred method as it helps us to understand what prospective employees will experience)
Do you prioritise what you work on?
As an independent recruitment consultancy, we tend to work with a handful of clients at any one time to make sure we know the roles and businesses in detail so we can then fully focus on each position. We can drop non-recruitment tasks in busy periods to purely focus on candidate sourcing and selection to deliver every time.
Do you have a rebate period?
Yes, we do. We work closely with you at every step of the process to make sure you get the right hire but sometimes things just don’t work out. We will support you with a free replacement to make sure your investment is protected – please ask us for our Terms of Business to find out more.
What do you charge?
Our fees are calculated as a percentage of the annual remuneration on a sliding scale. We can put together bespoke packages for multiple roles and exclusivity. As an independent recruitment consultancy, we are happy to discuss various options with you.
